Ways the weather can affect your hardwood floor

‘Whether the weather be cold
Or whether the weather be hot,
We’ll weather the weather,
Whatever the weather,
Whether we like it or not!’
(Unknown poet)

Weather can take its toll on your hardwood flooring, but it’s nothing you can’t weather with a little help from Millennium Floors.
Much like people, your timber flooring isn’t immune to effect the changes in weather has on it. In the heat timber flooring can swell, and with the cold it contracts, so how does this affect your beautiful finish?
Firstly, the weather doesn’t discriminate, any wooden flooring whether it be laminate, engineered flooring and any variety of timber will react the same to extreme temperature changes.
Living in subtropical Queensland, whether you’re on the Gold Coast or in Brisbane the weather can get hot, sticky and humid during the summer months, this is when you will need to keep an eye on your flooring. Hot timber flooring can bow, warp, expand and if left to its own devices can start to crack.

So, what can I do to keep my timber flooring looking great during the summer?

When your timber flooring is installed by Millennium Floors we will ensure it is installed correctly to allow for the natural movement of wood.
Generally keeping your home at a comfortable temperature for you is a great way to protect your floors. Closing the blinds or curtains when you go to work or out for the day is a great way to insulate your home from the heat.
When cleaning your floors do not use water in the summer months, adding more water to your timber flooring is only adding more fuel to the fire, so to speak.
Investing in a humidifier is a great way to protect your flooring from the humidity or popping the air conditioning on will give your timber floors, and no doubt you, some relief from the humidity.
